Hey Chicago, What’ya Say?  Spring Training, Picture Day, & Cody Bellinger

Monday was the first day of full squad activity across MLB and spring training sites everywhere.  If you are like me, I am sure your social media feed was flooded with photos of the guys in uniform striking different poses as yesterday seemed to be picture day for the Cubbies.  With all the pictures on my feed I couldn’t help but notice the missing on glaring absence of a photo.  Still no Cody Bellinger.

I must be honest, the longer it goes, and the further into spring training we get, the more I feel like this just isn’t going to happen.  Tom Rickett’s saying on Monday that he has stayed out of it and hasn’t had much interaction with Cody or his super-agent Scott Boras.  To which Boras immediately took to the internet to let the world know that when owners do in-fact get involved with negotiations it shows the player just how much their presence would mean to the organization.

So, what does it all mean?  In my opinion, it means that we are dealing with 2 strong willed individuals with 2 large egos, who won’t set those egos aside for the betterment of the player and more importantly the ball club.  As I mentioned above, the longer this goes on, the less likely I feel it is that Cody will return to the Cubs.  It may be time for us collectively as Cubs fans to move on from the drama and focus on the guys in uniform.
